Q Clearance mixed media 24"x24"			The Q-Clearance paintings are inspired by early atomic weaponry (specifically "Fat Man") and nuke testing images. It is interesting to note that the bomb shape itself somewhat resembles the mushroom cloud, when rotated tip up. The bomb shape in these images may also be read as an aperture space, as though looking through a window. Q-Clearance refers to top secret security clearance at the D.O.E. The burn mark in this painting was made by dropping powered graphite on a wet surface then blowing it outward with compressed air, an analogy for detonation.
